1.27.2022 daily mass reading – Gospel Acclamation Psalm 119: 105 and Gospel Mark 4: 21-25
Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light for my path. -Ps 119: 105
Parable of the Lamp.21e He said to them, “Is a lamp brought in to be placed under a bushel basket or under a bed, and not to be placed on a lampstand?f22For there is nothing hidden except to be made visible; nothing is secret except to come to light.g23Anyone who has ears to hear ought to hear.”24He also told them, “Take care what you hear. The measure with which you measure will be measured out to you, and still more will be given to you.h25To the one who has, more will be given; from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.”i
The connection between the Gospel Acclamation and the Gospel reading were pretty obvious today. And so I noticed it and thought about it…
God is the Word. God’s Word lights the Way. Jesus is the Light and the Way. To get to heaven we must follow the Word — live how God tells us how to live and how Jesus shows us how to live. “The Word became flesh and dwelt amongst us.”
If you are away from the Word then you are in the dark. Where you are going is hidden, unknown; you could be taking a bad path. You likely are taking a bad path if you aren’t seeing where it is you are going or how you are getting there!
So you want to walk in the light and with the light.
You need a light to light the way – with light you can see how you are going and where you are going. You are with knowledge. The way is clear; it is well-lit. It isn’t to say you won’t encounter obstacles, but you’ll be able to see them when they come across you or you come across them — because the light is lighting your way and guiding your feet. You can stay in the path of light that the lamp casts.
The lamp is lit with the Word of God. Immerse yourself in His Word and you will be immersed in Light. You will have light for your journey. You will travel to the good and the known; to the greatest good – God himself. Follow God and end up with God.
