My Adoration thoughts most often stay tucked away in my journal… But I’ll share this one:
7.10.2026 Adoration: Wife, Mother, Daughter, Child of God. Who I am in the world in relationship to others. So much of our being is defined by our relationship to others. Even our deepest, truest identity is as “Child of God” – we exist not as ourselves for ourselves. In no way are we ever just “me, myself, and I” and self-contained. Even an orphan or the friendless has their identity defined in relationship –and they too are “children of God”. A pagan or an atheist tries to outrun and deny their identity – they try to exist out of relationship. But how can one live a life that is void of relationship? I’d think to know or have any relationship is to see a glimpse of the relationship God wants to have with you. How can one so thoroughly deny their deepest and truest identity without feeling incomplete? St. Augustine’s words ring out the eternal truth: “My heart is restless until it rests in you.” But one must be aware enough of themselves and their self to comprehend/sense/be aware of this restlessness and truth. I pray for those who do not know or deny their identity as a “Child of God” – It is this relationship that is key for all other relationships! Amen.
In typing up these thoughts I, of course, had a few more thoughts…
- Why do I ever leave Adoration when I find that is the place where God most clearly speaks?
- What good is a “good thought” if it remains just a thought?
- This feels like a seed or a seedling that someone else could do great things with so it bears its proper fruit.
...Oh wait, you want more thoughts on this subject? I’d like them too, but alas those may come some other day…
